RISD Car Design

Automotive concept sketches and renderings I drew at RISD, working in pencil before I ever opened CAD.

Constraint

What made it hard

Drawing a car that reads as a real object means the proportions have to hold from every view. A form that looks right in three quarter can fall apart in plan, and the sketch has to survive being seen from all sides.

03

Decision

What I chose, and what I rejected

I drew the same car repeatedly from fixed views rather than chasing a new idea on every sheet. Working one form through front, side and three quarter is what exposes whether the proportions are real, and it is slower and less fun than starting over.

Evidence

Perspective construction drawing of a sailboat and rectangular volumes, with the vanishing lines left visible
Perspective studies of geometric solids, cubes, a cylinder and a cone, drawn over construction lines to two vanishing points
Pencil sketches of a concept sports car, a three quarter view above a side profile, with wheel and detail studies alongside
